Saithe lives in the North Atlantic ocean. In the eastern parts of the North Atlantic from the Barents sea south to the Bay of Biscay. In the western parts of the North Atlantic ocean it's found by the coastline of Greenland and by the east coast of North America from Hudson Bay south to North Carolina. Saithe is located all around Iceland but it's more common to find it in the warmer waters by the south and southwest coast than by the north coast or the east coast.
Saithe is both pelagic and demersal fish. It lives in all depths from the surface and down to 450 m depth. It's most common in 200 m depth. It usually lives in 4-12° C warm ocean. It prefers rocky or sandy bottoms but can also live by corals or sponge bottoms. It dislikes clay bottom. Saithe travels the ocean in turfs looking for food and research shows that it's quite a drifter. He wanders between Iceland and the Faroe islands, Norway, Scotland and to the Northsea while others may visit us from Norway and Faroe islands.
